Abstract: The paper analyzes the impact of hostilities on the state of surface waters. The Donetsk and Luhansk regions were home to the largest number of environmentally hazardous enterprises, mining, coal, metallurgical, and chemical industries that discharged wastewater into the Siverskyi Donets River basin. Russian aggression in Donbas in 2014 exacerbated the region's environmental problems, and the full-scale war since February 2022 has led to an environmental disaster. The study of the impact of the Russian full-scale war on the state of the Siverskyi Donets River basin showed catastrophic consequences and is aimed at developing a program to protect water bodies from pollution and depletion, ensure quality water supply, environmentally safe living conditions for the population and economic activity, and preserve biodiversity
