Abstract: | In the field of information technology and data storage, efficient data compression systems are crucial for optimizing resource utilization and enhancing data transmission speed. Traditional symmetric numeral systems, such as Huffman coding and arithmetic coding, have long been the mainstay in this area due to their reliability and straightforward implementation. However, these systems often face limitations in adaptability and compression efficiency, especially with uneven data distribution. The discovery of asymmetric numeral systems, which combine the encoding speed of Huffman coding with the efficiency approaching arithmetic coding, has provided a new impetus for the development of image compression methods. Yet, for optimal and optimized encoding that possesses sufficient noise resilience and efficiency, proper image segmentation is necessary. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of segmenting images into apertures of constant length followed by encoding using asymmetric numeral systems in comparison to the conventional uniform 8×8 segmentation. |
