Abstract: Abstract—The class of problems of covering a given area with a set of geometric objects of a given shape is considered. To formalize the tasks, the concept of configuration space is used, the generalized variables of which are metrical and placement parameters that define the sizes and position of objects in space. A mathematical model of the problem as a nonlinear optimization problem is constructed and its properties are investigated. The practical applications of the problem of maximum coverage are described.
