Abstract: Passive fire protection systems and materials are essential for the protection of steel structures handling hydrocarbons such as oil, petroleum products and natural gas. A hydrocarbon fire is characterized by a rapid temperature rise of up to 1100 °C in the first 5 minutes after ignition and a heat flux of about 150-200 kW/m², which negatively affects the strength and integrity of unprotected steel structures, leading to fire spread and premature destruction of load-bearing structures.
