FEATURES OF TRANSLATION OF PATHOANATOMICAL TERMS-METAPHORS

Abstract

Binary terms such as wolf's mouth, hare's lip, fish's eye, horse's foot, etc. have been studied. An adjective formed from the name of an animal is usually used as a modifier in pathoanatomical medical terms. A typical option for emergence is external similarity. For the first time, a comparative analysis of the terms-metaphors in the English-Ukrainian translation (taking into account their Latin counterpart) was carried out on the material of the encyclopedic publication "Mother's and Child's Health" (1994) and the textbook "Anatomy and physiology with pathology" (2001). Translation transformations are described, based on V. Karaban's classification. As a promising direction for further scientific research, we choose a similar study of the folk names of plants.
